Bilingual Authorization

Bilingual Authorization

CTC-Approved

The demand for teachers with a Bilingual Authorization is growing as school districts in the region adopt dual-immersion programs and those with existing programs expand them to higher grades. Bilingual credentialed teachers, who struggled to pass the tests required to teach in a dual-language classroom, now have the opportunity to satisfy the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) requirements by taking coursework offered through UCR Extension.

The Bilingual Authorization (formerly BCLAD) is a new program approved by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing which provides a coursework option for teachers who already have their credential – allowing them to combine passing CSET-LOTE (California Subject Examination for Teachers – Language Other Than English) test scores with coursework taken at UCR Extension to meet the CTC Bilingual Authorization requirements. This comprehensive program provides a detailed look into the four domains of language, an overview of the historical, legal and legislative contexts of bilingual education in the U.S., effective approaches to understanding cross-cultural relationships and interactions, and much, much more.

Embark on a language adventure and help facilitate the language acquisition process for English learners while opening an exciting new door in your career!
