Education for the Gifted and Talented Certificate

Teaching the gifted and talented presents unique challenges and rewards. The UCR Extension Education for the Gifted and Talented Certificate Program is offered to help teachers meet state educational training requirements for teaching GATE students and to keep teachers informed about recent research and curriculum development in the field.

Participants in the program will explore:

  • Identification and evaluation of the gifted student
  • Differentiated Instruction
  • Learning styles
  • Approaches to curriculum differentiation
  • Strategies to working with gifted learners in the regular classroom
  • Mentoring the gifted student
  • Teaching Critical Thinking
  • Multiple intelligences
  • Social and Emotional Needs

As an added benefit, collaboration between UCR Extension and the Graduate School of Education (GSOE) at UCR allows up to nine quarter units of credit from the GATE Certificate Program to be applied toward a Master of Education with an emphasis in Equity and Diversity through the GSOE at UCR. The choice is yours! Take it a step further and really enhance your educational experience by pursuing a Master of Education.

Who Can Benefit?

This program is designed for teachers who currently work with gifted and talented students, or who are interested in working with GATE students.
