Professional Certificate in Global Leadership

The Global Stewards Institute and the University of California, Riverside Extension launched the Global Leadership Program in 2012 to meet the growing needs of postgraduate students from many cultures for an experiential model of international education.

The Global Stewards Institute (GSI) and the University of California, Riverside Extension are collaborating on a 3-week experiential program to Panama, Cuba and the Caribbean in December, 2012.

The program, Panama, Cuba and the Caribbean: An Emerging Hub in a Changing Region, will include both land and sea components, a 3-unit global leadership course and a field study/service activity with a local NGO. You will also have an opportunity to collaborate with others and generate ideas for future projects, which will evolve out of our experience together.

Global Leadership Course: This core course on leadership will explore various leadership theories, community and organizational building, social change, global stewardship and interdisciplinary approaches Global Leadershipto understanding complex global issues. The UN Millennium Development Goals and the UN Global Compact will be addressed and integrated throughout the course and will frame the experiential activities that accompany the in class discussions and projects.

Field Study: Visits to local organizations to learn more about the pressing "GLOCAL" issues and solutions. Participants will have an opportunity to work on service projects in Panama and Cuba.

Social Venture Project: Participants will have an opportunity to collaborate with others and generate ideas for future social venture projects, which will evolve out of the study travel experience. Participants in the core course on Global Leadership will receive a certificate from GSI; and, qualified students will earn credits for the Program from UCR, which may be transferrable to graduate programs in the U.S. and around the world.
