Participants in the program will be taught:
- About the healthcare coding and billing industry, medical coding and billing.
- Medical terminology, word building, including root words, combining forms, prefixes, and suffixes.
- A refresher of basic English grammar and punctuation rules.
- Documentation and confidentiality requirements, HIPPA compliance regulations.
- Major body systems and diseases associated with them.
- Diagnostic coding systems including ICD-9-CM, CPT®, HCPCS Level II, DSM-IV, and ICD-O and the future implementation of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS.
- Inpatient and outpatient medical records.
- Healthcare reimbursement and the various types of payment systems used to reimburse outpatient services.
