Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) Certificate
CSI Practicum (Elective for the CSI Certificate)
The CSI Practicum requires 80 hours of supervised activity in a CSI
unit of a law enforcement agency. Individuals must
meet the minimum prerequisites. We can not place individual
students for internships at this time. If you are able to secure a practicum/internship
with an agency on your own and would like to earn elective
units for the experience (minimum 80 hours), please see the minimum prerequisites
and Practicum Application provided below.
Minimum Prerequisites
Satisfactory completion of the following
courses:
An official CSI certificate
application submitted
to UCR Extension.
Practicum Requirements
- Completion of 80 hours
of CSI field work.
- A detailed notebook describing the
cases you worked/observed, methods of evidence
collection, photographs, and all details regarding your activity.
- A
brief paper (3-5 pages) describing your experiences,
difficulties, challenges and what you learned.
- A letter
from your supervisor attesting to your participation
and including an evaluation of your activity. Send

Your grade will be issued once the above is received and graded by
UCR Extension.
Practicum Application PDF or DOC
Applications will be accepted when
you have secured an internship with a law enforcement agency. The University
will follow-up with your supervising sponsor. All information must be completed.
