Professional Interpretation and Translation — Spanish/English Certificate

Admission Requirements/Qualifying Examination
The program and courses are limited only to the most qualified applicants. To be admitted, candidates must:

  1. pass the admissions examination to determine fluency in both languages and submit an audio tape for review by the instructor
  2. have completed two years of college-level work, or have prior approval from the department. Once admitted, an application must be filed along with a non-refundable application fee. This fee covers academic advisement, tracking of progress/completion, and updates on program changes and additions.

Completion Requirements
To earn this certificate, all five required courses must be completed with a grade of B- or better and in the sequence indicated for a total of 17 units. Students receiving a grade lower than a B- will be given the opportunity to retake the course as soon as it is rescheduled. If a student continues to receive a grade below a B-, they will be asked to wait until the following year to continue with the program. Generally, certificate candidates may complete the program in nine months.
