This is a lower intermediate level English class in which you will build upon the listening, speaking, reading, writing, and grammar skills introduced in ESL Low and High Beginning. In this class, you will refine these skills so that you can participate in routine and sometimes challenging conversations about social, school, and work topics.  You may practice skills such as:

  • giving personal information
  • making polite requests
  • discussing housing
  • explaining recipes and food
  • making complaints
  • describing holidays

You will also learn different strategies to improve your reading comprehension, develop grammar skills, understand simple conversations, and write at the paragraph level.

Baker, Ph.D., TESOL, has more than 35 years of experience teaching English as a Second Language in the Peace Corps, in college and community college ESL programs, and at the middle and high school levels. Dr. Baker specializes in delivering effective second language instruction in online environments, and in using technology in ESL classrooms.
