What is STEM? Learn to understand the connections between curriculum standards and STEM competencies. You will discuss the newest trends in today's classrooms and explore:

  • Common Core State Standards
  • Next Generation Science Standards
  • English Language Development Standards
  • problem-based learning
  • problem solving
  • critical thinking

You will learn how to make the interdisciplinary connections required for successful teaching in a 21st Century learning environment, and become proficient in using the NRC Framework for K-12 Science education; the NGSS: incorporating ELA and Math Common Core Standards in a science unit; developing STEM units of instruction; and increasing student engagement.

Hudec, M.A., Spatial Literacy, Science/STEM Specialist, Palm Springs Unified School District, creates and facilitates professional development trainings to teachers on content, pedagogy, and the Next Generation Science Standards.  He also facilitates trainings on science and engineering education and the NGSS at the statewide NGSS rollouts, Riverside County Office of Education, and in several school districts throughout Southern California. Mr. Hudec has been a noted presenter at several National Science Teachers Association Conferences and California Science Teachers Conferences.
