PPS Intern Credential Program with an Emphasis in School Counseling

In addition to the PPS Credential Program with an Emphasis in School Counseling, UCR Extension also offers the PPS Intern Credential Program with an Emphasis in School Counseling. Students who are interested in the Intern program must first apply and be accepted into our PPS program.

The Intern applicant must:

  1. Be a student in good standing in the UCR Extension PPS credential program
  2. Have completed all requirements to apply for the UCR Extension PPS Intern program
  3. Submit a completed UCR Extension PPS Intern application
  4. Attend an interview with the PPS Program Coordinator and the UCR Extension Director of Education
  5. If approved, a letter will be issued to the candidate that the UCR Extension qualifications to become a PPS Intern have been met. A school district willing to hire the candidate must follow the UCR Extension requirements.

If the candidate is accepted into the UCR Extension PPS Intern program, the following steps must be followed:

  1. A district must be willing to hire a PPS intern and follow the UCR Extension requirements.
  2. A meeting will need to be scheduled with the UCR Extension Director of Education, the PPS Program Coordinator, the PPS Intern candidate and the following staff from the district that is interested in hiring an intern: Site principal, possible full time site PPS (school counseling credentialed) supervisor, and district superintendent or designee. The purpose of this meeting is to determine placement in the district and requirements that the district must agree to before any contract can be signed.
  3. If all items are mutually agreed upon, a contract will then be drawn which requires signatures from UCRX, the district superintendent and the bargaining unit. The bargaining unit signature is included as one of the items in the contract because no certificated employees within the district can be displaced upon the hiring of an intern.
  4. The signed contract must be returned to UCR Extension.
  5. The PPS Intern candidate submits the CCTC Intern application and necessary fees to the UCR Extension Student Affairs Officer.
  6. UCR Extension provides the PPS Intern with a C-19 letter to be given to the specific school district.

The PPS Intern must complete all of the UCR Extension requirements each quarter to continue in the PPS Intern program. The PPS Intern is required to successfully complete two courses and the intern course each quarter. This application process is completed annually for all PPS Interns. For a current Intern, the meeting will be held in April or May for the following school year.
