English Language Programs
As the world becomes smaller because of mass communication and global commerce, learning to speak and write English for business and pleasure is becoming increasingly important. The English Department offers grammar and writing classes, such as Fundamentals of Writing and Standard English Usage, for native and non-native speakers interested in brushing up skills.
For those interested in teaching abroad, Extension’s English Department offers a complete array of high quality courses for Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) and Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). Foreign students interested in studying at an American educational institution can prepare by enrolling in Extension’s Intensive English Program. Extension also administers the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) and the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), invaluable exams that test English proficiency for nonnative English speakers who are interested in moving up in the workplace.
Coursework is offered in a variety of formats from one-year programs to three- to four-week conversation and culture programs designed to accommodate the world traveler.
"By taking Standard English Usage, I learned many useful things. The
things I learned are something that I can really apply
in my daily life and most importantly in writing academic
papers."
—Jin-Young Kim,
