COURSES offered during the 2009 program

Date/Time: Mon.-Fri. 9 am-4 pm, July 20-31, 2009
Location: UCR Extension Center, 1200 University Ave.
Fee: $415 / $380 each additional sibling from same family

Students attend two morning classes and two classes in the afternoon. A copy of the student’s latest report card is required on or before July 14. A parent letter and materials list will be mailed prior to the beginning of the program.

AM I

Math Around the World
Throughout time, the best games from around the world have relied on numbers, geometry, probability and logic. In this class, you will discover intriguing patterns through games, number systems, and construction of a variety of projects. (1.1 Garnet)

Beginning Spanish
Introduction to Spanish language and culture. You will study conversational Spanish and the geography of the Spanish-speaking world. You will learn how to order from a menu in a restaurant. (1.2 Lopez)

AM II

A Quantum Leap to China
Immerse yourself in a totally different culture. Come see how Chinese people do everyday activities like talking, writing, eating and going to school. What do the Chinese people do when they want to relax and have fun? Discover new things you like about the Chinese culture, and you will become curious to learn about other unfamiliar cultures. Art From Many Cultures
Take a creative journey to many lands as you experience the wonders of art through different cultures. (1.4 Peterson)

PM I

Using Words to Weave Magic
Discover how to use words to create stories, folk tales and legends. Everyone has stories to tell – come tell yours. (1.5 Peterson)

First Aid and Wilderness Survival
Be prepared for emergencies. Do you know how to survive in the wilderness if you get lost? Learn basic first aid including how to assist in life-threatening situations. By learning the skills necessary to secure water, food and shelter, you will know how to stay alive and comfortable anywhere. Light a fire from a drop of water! (1.6 Kroeger)

PM II

Be A Star (new play this summer)
Be a part of the magic of live theater. In our theater, there will be a role for everyone! Explore the basics of acting and successful stage performance by learning fun and easy skills to steal the show. The final day will include a class performance. (1.7 Peterson)

On the Road to Success
Create your own society, print your own money, open your own business and learn to live successfully with a community of your own design. You can keep business records, write advertisements or become a banker, newspaper writer, insurance broker or self-made millionaire. (1.8 Kroeger)
