AP* Summer Institute for Secondary School Teachers

Instructors

Barbra Brooks-Barker, M.A., has been an active participant in the education of our youth for the past 30 years. She has been an outstanding English Literature and Composition teacher, a Table Leader and Reader of AP* English Literature exams and is one of the authors of "The Vertical Teams Guide for English." She has served as a Pre-AP* Coordinator for the Elk Grove School District and is a national consultant for the College Board.

George Wayne Davis, M.Ed., taught Macroeconomics at Oakridge High School in Oakridge, Tennessee and is the author of the "Teacher's Guide for Macroeconomics for Educational Testing Service." Davis is an endorsed consultant for Economics in the College Board's Southeastern region.

Matthew Ellington, B.A., teaches AP* U.S. History in Chino Valley Unified School District, is a College Board-endorsed consultant and since 2000 has been a reader for the U.S. History exam.

Sandra Forsythe, Ed.D., taught AP* English Language and English Literature, was Department Chair of English and Head Reader for the State of Nevada. Dr. Forsythe is a grader for the AP* English Language Exam, and a College Board-endorsed consultant in AP* English Language and Building Success.

Paul Groves, M.A.T., has received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Teaching, the American Chemical Society's Western Regional Award for High School Chemistry Teaching and in 2005 the Southern California Section's Outstanding High School Teacher Award. Groves has been teaching AP* Chemistry for over 20 years and is a College Board-endorsed consultant.

Victoria Landers, B.A., teaches pre-calculus and algebra and Calculus BC at Claremont High School. Landers has taught middle school, is a College Board-endorsed consultant for Vertical Teams Math, presented at the National Education Summit in 2001, is a National Consultant for the College Board, and developed a state-of-the-art math computer lab in San Gabriel.

Ramon Lopez, B.A. in Spanish has been an AP* Spanish Teacher for sixteen years. Mr. Lopez is a Reader for both the Spanish Literature and Spanish Language exams, has conducted both week-long and one-day workshops for the College Board and is a College Board-endorsed consultant. Mr. Lopez currently teaches at Arroyo High School in El Monte, CA.

Skip Nicholson, M.A., was English Department Head at South Pasadena High School and selected teacher of the year by South Pasadena Unified School District. Nicholson is a College Board-endorsed consultant, and has presented Shakespeare Institutes.

Anton Striegl, B.S., is an AP* World History teacher at Wilson High School in Long Beach. Striegl is a College Board-endorsed consultant and has also taught AP* U.S. History and European History.

Catherine Want, M.A., has taught secondary math from remedial math though Calculus, including AP* Statistics. Ms. Want received the Siemans' Teacher Excellence Award in 2003, served as Department Chair and Mentor Teacher at El Capitan and University High Schools and was selected as a Fulbright Exchange Teacher in England. She is an AP* Reader, Table Leader and is a College-Board* endorsed consultant.
