UCR Extension now offers APA-approved courses required for planners to maintain certification
RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Since last year, members of the American Planning Association (APA) are now required to pursue continuing education in order to maintain their certification. This month, the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), APA's professional institute, approved UC Riverside Extension as a qualified continuing educational provider that offers classes which fulfill Certification Maintenance requirements.
AICP members must earn a total of 32 CM credits between Jan. 1, 2008 and Dec. 31, 2009. A minimum of 1.5 credits must be on the topic of ethics, and another 1.5 credits must be on the topic of current planning law.
This spring, UC Riverside Extension is offering five courses for certified planners seeking to meet those requirements:
- CEQA: A Step-by-Step Approach
Thursday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., April 16 and 17 (2 meetings). UCR Extension Center, 1200 University Ave. Riverside. CA. Fee: $319 (includes text, refreshments and parking.) AICP CM/30/Law.
- Storm Water Regulations and Management
Fridays. 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., April. 17, May 1, 15, 29 and June 12. UCR Extension Center, 1200 University Ave. Riverside. CA. Fee: $479. AICP CM/30.
- Sustainable Resource Management
Wednesdays. 6 to 9 p.m., April 15 to May 13 (5 meetings). UCR Extension Center, 1200 University Ave., Riverside. CA. Also available via live Webcast. Fee: $395. AICP CM/20.
- Project Review and Planning Practices
Wednesdays. 6 to 9 p.m., Apr. 8 to June 17 and Saturdays. 9 a.m. to noon, Apr. 25 and May 16 (13 meetings). UCR Extension Center, 1200 University Ave., Riverside. CA. OR via videoconference at UCR Palm Desert, 75-080 Frank Sinatra Dr., Palm Desert, CA. Fee: $559. AICP CM/40.
- NEPA: A Step-by-Step Approach
