Eager-to-learn students can exercise their minds this summer in UCR Extension’s Expanding Horizons program

RIVERSIDE, CALIF. – A few weeks after school has ended, do your children already miss their classmates, the assignments, their teachers and the joy of learning? Sign them up for a two-week learning experience that they will remember long into their college years. Expanding Horizons is a summer program designed for academically gifted, eager-to-learn and motivated students who intend to enter the third through seventh grades this fall. Expanding Horizons begins July 21 and ends Aug. 1, 2008 at UCR Extension, 1200 University Ave., Riverside.

Children attend two morning classes and two afternoon classes Mondays through Fridays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. They can select from a wide variety of topics. Students can participate in a mock court trial in the class You and the Law. In the class, Art with Pizzazz, students exhibit original artwork in an art show. They can audition and earn a role in a play in the class Be a Star. Or students can create a society, print money, open a business and learn to live successfully within a community that the students design in the class On the Road to Success. Other topics include geometry, nanotechnology, the art of solving puzzles and using technology for research and presentations.

Preregistration is requested by July 14. Download an enrollment form for each child here.
