Explore Frank Lloyd Wright's Hollyhock House in L.A. with UCR Extension expert
RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Join architectural expert and UCR instructor Irini Vallera-Rickerson as you stroll through the famous gardens and historic hallways of Frank Lloyd Wright's Hollyhock House on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009. The Hollyhock House was Frank Lloyd's Wright's inspirational centerpiece of a master plan for a theater community set on a 36-acre site, "Olive Hill." That vision was never truly realized. In 2007, the Hollyhock House was designated a National Historic Landmark. You will learn about this and more in UC Riverside Extension's class, Frank Lloyd Wright in Los Angeles, which is offered 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27 and 8:30 to 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at UCR Extension, 1200 University Ave.
To set the stage for Saturday's field trip, Vallera-Rickerson will show you slides of the works of Wright, Charles and Henry Greene and furniture and house plan designer Gustav Stickley, who had a great influence on Wright. You will get the feel for Wright – the man, the artist, and the architect. Vallera-Rickerson, who has a doctorate in architecture from the University of Florence, is also an art history professor at Orange Coast College.
The class fee is $305 per person and $250 each for couples (includes parking and bus transportation). Detailed instructions for Saturday's bus departure will be discussed at the Friday evening lecture.
