Helping professionals learn to counsel those coping with loss and grief in UCR Extension class
RIVERSIDE, CALIF. – Losing a loved one, a job, a pet, a home or anything that one becomes attached to can be devastating and damaging to the grief-stricken person. Helping professionals inevitably encounter people traumatized by loss in their day-to-day responsibilities. To refine one’s skills in dealing with the grief-stricken, UCR Extension is offering the class Grief and Loss Counseling. The class meets from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 18 and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 19 at the UCR Extension Center, 1200 University Ave.
This course examines the emotional, cognitive and physical components of grief and how to help someone dealing with loss issues. Topics include the process of grief, interventions, children’s reactions to loss, the caregiver, and the differences between anticipatory and unexpected loss. MFT/LCSW and registered nurses continuing education credit is available. The fee is $195.
