Learn how to Establish a Small Home Vineyard in UC Riverside Extension Class in Temecula
Riverside, Calif. – Have you ever wanted your own small vineyard? You can learn how to plant and manage your own from seed to grape in UC Riverside Extension’s popular course, Small Vineyard Management. Spend the day at Mount Palomar Winery in Temecula, where the class will be held, learning about the basic requirements of growing a vineyard. The class meets from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 2 at the winery, at 33820 Rancho California Rd.
Instructor Robert Scharpf, who is a retired research plant pathologist, has spent the last 20 years owning and managing Quartz Hill Vineyard in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada near Placerville. He is also an accomplished home winemaker and has won numerous awards for wines made from his grapes.
Scharpf will teach you about seasonal operations, such as pruning, pest control, irrigation, canopy management and harvesting. The use of small tools and other equipment for vineyard management is also demonstrated.
The fee for this class is $179. UCR faculty and staff receive a 10 percent discount when they register.
