UCR Extension's "Learning Skills" class prepares children for greater success in middle school
RIVERSIDE, CALIF. – Now that your children have graduated from elementary school, they are on to their next big adventure – middle school. Moving up in the academic world demands new skills. UCR Extension offers an ideal one-week program, Learning Skills, Grades 6-8, which prepares children for this crucial transition. The one-week course, geared for sixth-graders, seventh-graders and eighth-graders, begins Monday, Aug. 4 and ends Friday, Aug. 8. Students attend classes from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the UCR Extension Center, 1200 University Ave., Riverside.
Instructor Susan Kroeger helps students identify how they learn and process information. Then, she shows them how to adapt their individual learning styles to different learning situations. Students learn how to manage their time, juggle multiple assignments, and organize their school assignments so that they work efficiently. Other topics include the secrets of good note taking and the art of taking tests for maximum performance. Students learn how to build their self-esteem, communicate well with others, and solve problems in a group setting.
The fee for this class is $195/$175 for siblings. Preregistration is requested by Aug. 1.
