Learn the art of re-writing and editing your own work in UCR Extension's class 'Taking Your Writing To The Next Level'

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The art of writing is in the re-writing – chipping and chiseling away at sentences and paragraphs that you toiled to create. Re-writing is the countless attempts to start a story, which ends as a wadded ball hurtling toward the wastepaper basket. UCR Extension's class, Taking Your Writing To The Next Level, is ideal for the writer cramped by his current prose or seeking to challenge his inner Shakespeare. The class meets from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at the UCR Extension Center, 1200 University Ave., Riverside.

Instructor Jean-Noel Bassior, a freelance writer and author who has perfected the art of the celebrity interview, will show you how to add sizzle and zest to your writing, so stories dance off the page. You'll learn how to plant hooks in sentences that make readers want more, avoid jargon and cliché, and hone your own style. Bassior's work has appeared in national magazines, including "Redbook," "Parade," and "McCall's." She will show you how to be your own editor. You are asked to bring a writing sample to class for constructive feedback.

The class fee is $105 and includes parking.
