Learning never stops at the Osher Institute

Osher Lifelong Learning Institute
Classes in Riverside
UCR Extension
1200 University Ave.
Fall Calendar 2009

Wanted: Mature adults, intellectually curious, interested in sharing ideas and learning about new things, seeking connections with like-minded souls.

Those are the people you will meet through the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute sponsored by the University of California, Riverside Extension.

Adults, 50 years and older, are invited to enjoy college-level courses without worrying about tests, grades, entrance exams or prerequisites.

Hone your Spanish-speaking skills at Cafe Literario, rediscover the poetry of Emily Dickinson, explore the Bible as dynamic literature or learn what’s new in astronomy. These are just a few of the courses available in the fall session that starts the week of Sept. 14.

The membership fee of $125 per session entitles you to take up to five classes. Classes are held at the UCR Extension Center, 1200 University Ave., Riverside, or in the Coachella Valley at the UCR Palm Desert Graduate Center, 75-080, Frank Sinatra Drive, and the Annenberg Center for Health Sciences, 39-000 Bob Hope Drive.

Member benefits include: discounts on UCR campus programs; UCR Extension class discounts and notice of special field trips.

For a limited time, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute is offering a special rate of $35 for one class. If you decide to sign up for more classes, that cost will be credited toward a full membership fee. Given current economic conditions, that’s a hard offer to pass up.

Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes were created by the Bernard Osher Foundation to provide educational programs for mature adults who were interested in learning for the joy of learning.

The Foundation offers universities start-up grants of $100,000 renewable for two or three years and endowments of $1 million to provide permanent support for successful programs.

Today, Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes are offered by 122 universities in 49 states across the country and the District of Columbia.
