Sexual Assault Examination Training: Adult/Adolescent
online program
Program Prerequisites
Admission application required. Medical
license or registration, i.e. physicians, RNs, LVNs,
LPNs, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and
other licensed or registered health care professionals. Law
enforcement, attorneys, advocates and other social
services professionals may apply for the online course only. Non-medical
professionals who successfully complete the academic portion only will
receive a certificate specifying completion of the course only.
Completion Requirements
Successful completion of the 4-unit (60 hour) online
course (final exam score of 90% or higher) and successful
completion of required internship comprised of a
minimum 45 hours of supervised clinical and non-clinical
activities described below.
Participants complete the online course in three months. The internship
may be completed concurrently or within six months of
the completion of the course.
Internship
To complete the SAE training program, the participant
must complete a separate 45-hour internship comprised
of clinical and non-clinical examinations and observations.
The internship requires speculum examinations,
sexual assault forensic examinations, a law enforcement
ride-a-long, court observation, advocacy program observation
and District Attorney's Office observation. All aspects
of the internship must be completed within 6 months
after successful completion of the course. Competency-based
evaluation forms and instructions are provided online
to begin the SAE internship. A Sexual Assault Examination
Training: Adult/Adolescent certificate of completion
is issued upon successful completion of the course
and internship.
It is the responsibility of the participant to arrange for a local internship.
Instructors are available to assist linking participants
to professional resources within the local community.
