Encouraging teachers to think outside the box and present innovative ideas for maximizing professional development
South Counties Reform Initiative Benefiting Educators and Students (SCRIBES) is an exciting new grant project established by UC Riverside Extension. The purpose of the SCRIBES Project is to offer grants (up to $30,000 over a two-year period) to teams of 3-5 teachers to design their own professional development and to translate that experience into a classroom or school project that ultimately will lead to school reform.
The SCRIBES Project was open to teams of K-12 teachers currently teaching at public, private and independent charter schools in one of the following four counties:
- Riverside
- Orange
- Imperial
- San Diego
UCR Extension invited teachers to submit a SCRIBES proposal that presents an innovative, creative approach to using professional development in order to step outside the "regular" curriculum and improve teaching and learning in the classroom and schools. Grants were awarded to 25 proposals.
