Through foundational skill building, you will delve into programming in R, the free Microsoft-supported machine learning software that has become the standard for data scientists and enterprises for automating processes and solving business challenges. By understanding the concepts of supervised and unsupervised machine learning, you will learn how to predict probability and optimize logistics within a company’s structure. Part 1 Courses and Schedule

Data Science: Discipline Overview, Use Cases, Methodologies, & Tools
Introduction to R, Data Preparation, & Visualization

Classes taught over three weekends.

Fall 2018 Cohort: Sat. 9 a.m.-4 p.m. & Sun. 9 a.m.-12 p.m., Sept. 15, 16, 29 & 30 & Oct. 13 & 14

Winter 2019 Cohort: Sat. 9 a.m.-4 p.m. & Sun. 9 a.m.-12 p.m., Jan. 12, 13, 26 & 27 & Feb. 9 & 10

Cost to attend Part 1: $3,000. Admitted applicants will be required to pay 50% of the tuition with the balance due on or before:

  • Fall Cohort: September 5
  • Winter Cohort: January 2

Part 2 Courses and Schedule

SQL & Database Management with R
Foundations of Statistics, Statistical Inference, & Probability
Unsupervised Machine Learning: Clustering & Association Rules
Supervised Machine Learning: Regression and Time Series Analysis
Supervised Machine Learning: Introduction to Classification Algorithms
Data Science with R Capstone Project

Five of the courses will be delivered via live simulcast. Students can attend class from any location with internet access. Classes will be taught on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Fall Cohort: October 16 - February 28.

Winter Cohort: February 12 - June 15.

The capstone project will be delivered onsite at the UCR Extension Center.

Fall Cohort: March 8 and 9 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Winter Cohort: June 14 & 15, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Cost to attend Part 2: $3,000. Admitted applicants will be required to pay 50% of the tuition with the balance due on or before:

  • Fall Cohort: October 6
  • Winter Cohort: February 2

Required equipment

Participants must bring their own computer device to all classes. Either a PC or Mac, at least 4GB of RAM, R installed, RStudio installed (Open Source Software) and 10GB of free disk space. Download and install R and R Studio: https://datasociety.com/topic/setting-up-r-and-rstudio/.
