Provides you with an analysis of the connection between language and culture, and explores the ways in which people differ in their attitudes toward various cultural values. Topics include:
- the nature of culture
- the impact of culture, diversity, and identities on language skills and daily activities
- cultural stereotypes
- prejudices
You will be encouraged to compare and contrast values, attitudes, and cultural patterns of the United States with those of other countries of the world. You will also discuss approaches and reactions to cross-cultural contact, and solutions for resolving cross-cultural conflicts. By the end of the course, you will create and deliver presentations that analyze issues, values, and beliefs across cultures.
