ESL Student Teaching

This is the capstone class of the 28-unit Advanced Professional Certificate Program in TESOL.  You will apply the knowledge and skills you have gained in the TESOL Professional Certificate Program by teaching real ESL classes.  You will be matched with an experienced mentor teacher, and assist in the planning and delivery of ESL classes on a weekly basis.  You will:

  • create original activities
  • develop lesson plans
  • develop materials and resources
  • deliver instruction to adult learners  

Each week, you will receive feedback from both your peers and mentor teacher.

Candace Jorgensen, M.A., Education with TESOL Emphasis, also holds TESOL and TEFL Professional Certificates, and specializes in teaching English pronunciation skills. Her own world travels, plus studying in other countries, inform her understanding of student needs and the challenges of learning second languages.  Ms. Jorgensen also speaks French and Danish.

Baker, Ph.D., TESOL, has more than 35 years of experience teaching English as a Second Language in the Peace Corps, in college and community college ESL programs, and at the middle and high school levels. Dr. Baker specializes in delivering effective second language instruction in online environments, and in using technology in ESL classrooms.
