About the Course

Covers the key developments in the history of United States to 1877. While the course gives you a general survey of United States History to 1877, it will rely on key concepts and institutions that were developed.  You cover American society, politics, culture, and focus on the unique historical conditions that framed and formed America’s foundation, and how those conditions affected  the emergence of a new, powerful, and industrial United States. Also explore various challenges we, as a people, have faced, and discuss the political and geographic realities average Americans encountered as they attempted to deal with expanding democracy, and confronted America’s differing and changing political viewpoints.
