Digital Photography: The Basics

Effectively use your digital camera to produce great images. Instruction also covers a light review of photographic history and the fundamentals of Adobe Photoshop software, as well as the basic concepts of:

  • digital image capture
  • image formats
  • file manipulation
  • storage media
  • output

You will use your own digital cameras to produce images for photographic assignments.

Scott Klinger [ bio ]

Klinger, M.F.A., is a professional photographer, artist, filmmaker and educator, is a faculty member at College of the Desert, and has also taught at UC Irvine and the New York Film Academy. His photographs have been exhibited in galleries and museums around the world. Mr. Klinger has also worked as a fashion and editorial photographer, and one of his short flims was featured at the 66th Cannes Film Festival.

Students should bring a digital camera (with adjustments for shutter and aperture). Students should also have access to the Adobe Creative Cloud software and be prepared to bring a laptop to class.

close [x] Stephen Baumbach, Owner, Stephen Baumbach Photography, Palm Springs, has more than 45 years of experience teaching, presenting workshops, and exhibiting his photographs in numerous shows nationwide. His images range in scope from rodeos, national and international architectural icons, landscape, and studio fine art photography. Mr. Baumbach is also a lecturer and presenter for the Palm Springs Art Museum.

A field trip (1-2 class meetings) may be included in the course. NOTE: Course does not include parking. Students should be prepared to purchase a daily parking permit at the UCR Palm Desert Center.
