An introduction to the syntax and fundamentals of Python followed by an extensive study of the ArcPy site package and how it can be used to automate and streamline workflows in ArcGIS Desktop. Offered in an intensive format, you will learn how to:

  • write Python scripts
  • create script tools using the ArcPy site package to automate geoprocessing workflows
  • list data
  • access and update values in attribute tables
  • describe data
  • build feature layers and table views to create selections and subsets
  • write to and read from text files
  • use the Mapping module to work with the contents in existing map documents and layer files

The course also includes a refresher on geoprocessing framework and discussions on error handling and function.

NOTE: Section 181ETG006 starting July 31 is offered in a one-week intensive format.
