Designed to provide future sports managers with an understanding of the legal aspects of sports management in order to better inform managerial decisions and reduce liability and litigation. This overview will address the basics of the legal system, both in a national an international context, legal terminology and principles as applied to professional and amateur sports. Emphasis is placed on identifying and analyzing the legal issues that exist in today's environment, including:

  • the right to participate
  • liability for injuries
  • risk management
  • gender equity
  • intellectual property
  • labor relations
  • drug testing

The role of national and international oversight and governance will be covered.
