Preventing diseases, insects, and weeds through the incorporation of recommended cultural maintenance strategies including proper irrigation, fertilization and mowing height. Topics include:

  • Identification and early detection of pest problems
  • The use of integrated pest management practices
  • An update of currently registered pesticides for each pest and the effectiveness of these chemicals
  • Any known tolerances and/or resistances and adverse environmental impacts of pesticides

Vassey, Ph.D., Golf Course Superintendent, Old Ranch Country Club, Seal Beach, has done considerable research in agronomy, and plant and crop physiology at the University of Georgia, Iowa State University, and University of Missouri. Dr. Vassey has also taught a large number of college-level courses for University of Tennessee and California Polytechnic State University in subjects such as plant sciences, pesticides, horticulture, lawn, turfgrass and landscape management, plant pathology and propagation, plant breeding, weed biology, disease and pest control, sports field construction, and golf course management.
