Examines the biological principles for effective species preservation and habitat conservation with:

  • An overview of the development and current status.
  • Direction of state and federal laws and regulations regarding protection of endangered species and ecosystems.
  • History of government policies toward species and habitat conservation.
  • Principles of conservation biology, multispecies conservation, and Habitat Conservation Plans (HCPs).
  • A discussion of Natural Community Conservation Plans (NCCPs) in Southern California.
