Building Nonprofit Capacity
Gain an understanding of the ever-present nature of change at work in nonprofit organizations, and examine the various stages in the lifecycle of an organization. Learn how to respond to the challenges of meeting the needs of their constituents. Students will cover how to acquire the appropriate resources, strategies, planning, and expertise needed to ensure the effectiveness, growth, and sustainability of their programs, services, and communities of service. |

Managing Nonprofit Human Resources
Begin with a review of employment law and conclude with a discussion of the organization of HR functions. Students receive a thorough and comprehensive examination of the most valuable resources in the nonprofit organization: its staff and volunteers. Discuss recruiting, hiring, salaries, benefits, terminations, and layoffs. In addition, managing performance, team leadership, and supervision are presented as tools that nonprofits can use to increase productivity and effectiveness in their operations, programs, and services. |

Practical Nonprofit Program Development and Evaluation
Explore how to properly plan projects for evaluation by using a variety of inputs and tools for planning objectives, measuring program performance, and measuring program impact. Students will identify methodologies for selecting an evaluation team, data collection and dissemination of evaluation results, lessons learned, and best practices. |

Nonprofit Financial Management
A focus on helping the leader manage the organization's finances responsibly and professionally, including federal reporting requirements, ensuring proper systems and controls are in place to protect the organization, and increasing revenues and decreasing expenses. Students will develop practical skills for preparing the budget, managing cash flow, investing funds, and responding to audits. |

Strategic Communications for the Nonprofit Organization
This capstone course allows students to design a plan to disseminate, implement, and sustain the changes that they developed in each of the other classes in the certificate program. Using a proven process, the leader will identify the building blocks, analyze the situation, focus on their target audiences, and foster audience support for their initiatives. The product of these efforts will be a plan that promotes, advances, and guides the organization to success in achieving its mission. |
